There are approximately 17,000 auto accidents every day in the U.S., the vast majority of which are relatively minor. However, even the smallest collisions can results in neck injuries, also known as ‘whiplash.’ The force of a collision thrusts the head and neck forward and quickly backward – especially in rear collisions. This jolting affects both the hard and soft tissues of the neck, resulting in sprains, strains, nerve inflammation, disc herniations and potential vertebral fractures.

Many whiplash victims are unaware of their symptoms in the hours immediately following an accident. It is often not until the next day that pain, stiffness and soreness set in. Some victims experience pain in both the front and back of the neck, as well as a headache at the base of the skull. Some patients also report feeling pain that radiates from the neck into other regions of the upper body, such as the shoulders and upper back.

Chiropractic Treatment for Whiplash

It is critical for whiplash victims to seek treatment as soon as possible. Untreated whiplash injuries may worsen, forming scar tissue that can ultimately make treatment more difficult with time. Anyone involved in an accident should seek chiropractic care regardless of whether whiplash symptoms are present.

At our office, we treat whiplash using a combination of therapies designed to isolate the source of pain, minimize discomfort, restore functionality, and facilitate long-term healing. Chiropractic adjustments provide pain relief in just a few office visits, and the application of ice or heat can manage pain and muscle spasms caused by the injury.

If you have been injured in an accident that resulted in whiplash or any type of neck injury, contact our office to find out how we can help you. Relief is just a phone call away!
